Profiling our new Wiki – A collaborative toolkit for Transmedia Storytellers!

December 14, 2011 Resources, Wiki 3 Comments

Hello everyone,

I’m so excited to officially announce that Transmedia LA has created a Wiki. This Wiki aims to be an open toolkit for everyone in the Transmedia community looking into tools, services, and other innovative resources to facilitate the creation of Transmedia projects.

The Transmedia LA Wiki:

We encourage everyone in the community to not only check the Wiki periodically for updates, but also add to the Wiki when you find a service or tool that has come useful in your work. To add to the Wiki just request to be added to the workspace at the upper right corner of the pbworks page.

Specialized knowledge is very valuable, particularly in this community. We are hoping that by sharing resources with each other we can open a dialogue of what works and doesn’t work, and avoid re-inventing the wheel as much as we can.

Right now the Wiki is divided in a handful of categories, but we hope to add more of these over time. As it stands today, in alphabetical order, we have:

  • Game Resources: Includes a few basic game making resources.
  • Publishing Resources: Here you will find info on self-publishing, e-publishing interactive tools, and resources for digital print assets.
  • Social Media Resources: A bit self explanatory.
  • Technology Resources: Under this category you will find info on Live Communication tools, Learning how to Code, Mobile App Development, and Website Creation Services.
  • Transmedia Resources: Under this category you will find a basic toolkit to get started in a Transmedia project, more advanced production tools, and a list of audience tracking and measuring services.
  • Writing Resources: Here you will find resources, programs, and grant info for writers.

Now, just to get you guys excited about the types of tools and services we have included in the Wiki (and that we aim to include in the future) I’m going to profile 4 awesome tools that are not only innovative, but will help you save an incredibly amount of time and energy when working on a project.

If This Then That: awesome synchronization service that automatically sets tasks for you across multiple platforms. (Find it under the Transmedia Storyteller Toolkit category)

Cowbird: Document a story in a visual manner through a calendar, a map, by characters, or through a timeline. (Find it under the Transmedia Storyteller Toolkit category)

Subtext: Interactive application that allows for community interaction, sharing opinions and other media within the context of an ebook. (Find it under the E-publishing Interactive Tools category)

Prezi: Great service for pitching. Creates amazing presentations you can zoom in and out of. (Find it under the Transmedia Storyteller Toolkit category)

Hope everyone finds these tools and the Wiki useful. Please check it out and encourage others in the community to add to it. Find a permanent link for the Wiki on the Transmedia LA website under Resources.

Transmedia L.A. Announces New Director Positions!

December 12, 2011 Announcement 1 Comment

On behalf of Tara Brown, Jay Bushman and myself, I’m thrilled to officially announce the creation of three new Director roles in Transmedia L.A! Having specific members dedicated to meeting the needs of TLA in these areas will greatly help us with operational and meetup logistics, branding and awareness, and providing value to TLA members.

Content Curation Director – April Arrglington
April’s primary responsibility is ensuring timely content curation and publication, primarily via our official website. She will work closely with the Communications Director to ensure that TLA content is accessible across a multitude of platforms.

Communications Director – Angelique Toschi
Angelique is overseeing all of our social media platforms, including Facebook and Twitter. She will work closely with the Content Curation Director, as well as identify and assess any new social media platforms TLA should be using.

Community Director – Hal Hefner
Hal will help bring in and welcome new TLA members, both online and offline. In addition to managing membership at our Meetup and Google Group sites, Hal will actively welcome new faces at TLA meetups and help introduce new members to older ones to better integrate our membership community.

Please note these roles are strictly voluntary, and I want to thank Hal, April, and Angelique for stepping into these positions. They have demonstrated a consistent level of enthusiasm and support for TLA, and their commitment to their new responsibilities in TLA is just one more reason we’re thankful for their on-going hard work!

If you’re a TLA member and are interested in helping with any of the areas above, please contact April, Angelique, or Hal – I’m sure they would appreciate it.  : )

Transmedia LA does the Giskin Anomaly

December 6, 2011 Event No Comments

On Saturday, December 3, 2011, a merry band of adventures from Transmedia LA Meetup set out for San Diego’s picturesque Balboa Park. Their mission: find the Giskin Anomaly and report back.

Thanks to Susan Bell for curating the Storify thread. The Giskin Anomaly was designed by Ken Eklund from World Without Oil, and it will run for another month if interested in heading down to San Diego and experience it yourself.

Check out the Storify thread here:
